Among them is Sarah Orne Jewett's “The Country of the Pointed Firs”, another title I can recommend without reservation ... It is funny, tough, wondrous and gossipy in generous measure. Gibson's voice has something formidable about it, strict and no nonsense, with a low timbre. She is bracing to hear.
